PILATES ("pu-LAH-teez") is a form of exercise dveloped by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) in the early 1900s. Pilates is a total body workout that can be performed by people of virtually all fitness levels. It focuses on movements that originate in the body's core or "powerhouse," and engages the deep postural muscles.
